Cell-Free DNA Biomarkers

Katherine Doyle, Natalya Veyko, Pat Gillevet, Ancha Baranova

This is a collaborative project between

Molecular and Microbiology Department, College of Science,George Mason University, Fairfax, VA

Research Center for Medical Genetics, RAMS, Moscow, Russia

Both human serum and cell-free cell culture media are full of DNA fragments that are secreted by both living and dying cells in responce to various stimuli. Not so much known about contect of these DNA fragmants, however, there are some hints that DNA secreted by normal cells is different from DNA secreted by cells under various kinds of stress. We are going to study this phenomenon and possibly develop novel cell-free DNA based biomarkers of chronic diseases
